There is a meeting tonight in Walkerton to educate the public about suicide.
A two day conference on Suicide Awareness and Prevention wraps up today in Owen Sound.
There is also a similar meeting in Walkerton tonight.
The community recently lost a popular teenager to suicide.
The Brockton Police Service Board and Cameron Funeral Home have come together to offer this special Suicide Awareness, Prevention and Intervention forum.
The keynote speaker is Boston author and psychologist Doctor Jack Jordan.
Police Board Chair Charlie Reidl says Doctor Jordan is a leader in suicide prevention and grief counselling.
He says tonight’s public meeting will arm parents with the tools they need to identify the signs of suicidal behaviour and educate them on what to do.
Mayor David Inglis encourages the public to come out and become informed.
He notes suicide rates seem to be on the rise and something needs to be done to reach out to these young people.
Tonight’s meeting is free to the public.
It begins at 7 PM at the Victoria Jubilee Hall.
