Dave Trumble says yesterday’s announcement that a new nuclear build would take place at Darlington doesn’t necessarily shut out the Bruce site.
Trumble says the group envisioned several outcomes for their campaign, and believe yesterday’s decision is a victory.
The province has renewed its committment to needing 63 hundred megawatts of power from the Bruce.
A study is going to be done on whether that would require a re-build of the reactors at Bruce B, or an entirely new build, Bruce C.
Trumble says at a recent meeting with provincial officials, the group was given the assurance that the Bruce site would continue to be a major contributor to Ontario’s power needs.
He says that’s crucial information for people living in the region, considering the years of uncertainty surrounding the BNPD’s future.
Trumble says the group’s job is now going to be making sure the study is done in a timely manner.
