The community of Saugeen Shores is going full-tilt to support Movember.
The idea started in Australia, where a group of guys decided they wanted to grow moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
And Eric Tiisler of Port Elgin, better known as Mo Bro Eric, decided to amp up awareness locally a few years ago with his friends.
Last year, their idea expanded to a pub night at the Blind Badger in Port Elgin, but quickly that venue was packed.
So this year, Mo Bro Eric says they’re organizing a pub crawl, with bands playing free live music at the Blind Badger, the Wismer House, the Queen’s, and A Taste of Europe.
And this year Bruce Power has donated five thousand dollars to kick off local fund raising.
The pub crawl is set for November 26th — right after the Christmas Parade concludes in Saugeen Shores.
Mo Bro Eric says Movember has been a huge success across Canada, and has even been recognized by Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
There is a video on YouTube showing how proceeds from Movember is helping them with genome mapping.
Guys growing moustaches for Movember can set up a link for pledges at www.ca.movember.com.
And Eric says everybody can help raise money and awareness by getting a blue hair extension at Accent Hair Design in Port Elgin.
The stylists there are donating their time, and giving all the proceeds from the extensions to prostate cancer research.
