Owen Sound’s Chief of Police has now officially be sworn in.
You may have noticed a number of Police cruisers at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
That’s where Bill Sornberger was officially sworn in Thursday as the 14th Owen Sound Chief of Police.
Sornberger was joined by Chiefs of Police from York, Toronto, Stratford and all over Ontario at the ceremony.
Sornberger says although he’s been in the role for awhile it was very hard for him at the podium in front of friends, family and supporters.
But he says now it’s for real and he’s ready.
Police Services Board Chair Garth Pierce says while it was the most important appointment, it was also an easy appointment.
Sergeant Ted Kitto noted in his speech that the first Owen Sound Police Chief John Mills was appointed back in 1854.
To put that into perspective the RCMP was formed in 1874 followed by the OPP in 1909.
