There will be about one thousand more workers at the Bruce nuclear generating station in Tiverton over the next six months.
Bruce Power Spokesperson John Peevers says Bruce A’s Unit 3 was taken offline Sunday, for a planned outage.
Peevers says the outage will allow for 323 million dollars worth of work to be done, so that the life of the Unit will extend through the end of this decade.
Peevers adds it’s an example of the company’s commitment to operating the site for generations in the future.
He says there are about three or four planned maintenance outages per year at the nuclear generating station, but this one is going to last a little longer than usual.
Units 3 and 4 were both brought back online in the past ten years.
There are currently six functioning units, and Peevers says it will soon be eight, as part of Bruce Power’s plan to become the largest nuclear facility in the world.
