The Huron OPP Detachment is releasing their crime statistics from 2008.
Inspector Dan Grant says a big problem area is an increased number of impaired driving charges throughout the County.
He says on one hand, it’s great that so many people are being caught by the police and charged, but there needs to be more awareness that drinking and driving is not something anyone should do.
Grant says they continue to operate RIDE checkpoints within Huron County and officers are diligent in tracking down drunk drivers.
He says it’s harder to detect someone under the influence of drugs, but it’s still something that officers are on the lookout for.
Grant says a statistic they saw in 2008 was a slight increase in motor vehicle collisions over the year before.
But, he says the number of personal injury MVC’s went way down as compared to 2007.
Another statistic that remains high in Huron County is Deer-Vehicle Collisions.
Huron continually has at least double the amount of incidents with deer as Perth County does.
