The Hanover Hospital is receiving a little extra funding this year, but the cost of doing business also continues to rise.
Vice President of Patient Care Service Marnie Ferguson says the 1.8 per cent increase equates to an extra 233 thousand dollars on an overall 17 million dollar budget.
And while the additional funds are much appreciated, she they dont keep pace with rising staff salary costs.
Thanks to cost cutting measures, making up the difference wont be an issue this year, however the Hospital may not be so fortunate in the years to come if the funding increases dont at least match that of salary hikes.
Ferguson says there is only so much fat that can be trimmed, after that she is unsure of how the hospital will manage to offset funding inequities.
But for now she says staff will continue to seek out new ways to save money and discover inefficiencies.
Of the 17 million dollar budget, 10 million is needed to cover staff salaries and pensions.
