After nine years of leading the Bluewater Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, Tamara Govier is leaving for the private sector.
Govier will finish her work at the Society on June 20th.
Govier says over the past year her job has changed significantly from dealing with people directly, to one of heading up a staff.
She says she misses the interaction with the general public.
Govier has accepted a position with the Investor’s Group Financial Services as a consultant.
Over the past few years she has been furthering her education in financial planning and feels now is the time to make the switch.
Govier says her entire time with the Canadian Cancer Society has been rewarding and she can’t think of one specific highlight.
However, she says the yearly Cops for Cancer events were always a favorite and she fondly remember the first time Bayshore Broadcasting Sports Director Fred Wallace had his head shaved.
After serving in the not-for-profit sector for a total of 16 years, Govier says she decided it was time to move to the private sector.
However, she hopes to still be able to help the Canadian Cancer Society — just “in a different way”.
An internal search has begun for Govier’s replacement, failing which, a broader search will begin.
