A new name has been picked for the congregation being formed with the amalgamation of the Division street and Knox United churches in Owen Sound.
Future Direction Committee Chair Terry King says they had some 50 names to pick from and once it was cut to three, members voted in favour of “Georgian Shores United Church.”
The two churches will officially amalgamate January 1st, 2012.
King says they decided to use the Division street church because it is more accessible.
A decision on what to do with the 165 year old Knox united church is up in the air but he says there have been a number of inquiries.
King says as church attendance continues to fall, maintaining two separate churches was getting harder each month.
Division Street has less than 400 members and Knox about 250 members.
