A new burning by-law is in place for West Grey
The municipality’s Fire Chief Phil Schwartz says council has revised the old by-law to make it more user friendly and little easier to understand.
Schwartz says they are trying to tighten up the by-law to try and prevent the spreading of fires and the regulating of open fires for the municipality.
The by-law has four new changes to it.
Schwartz says the size of camp fire has been reduced from 36 inches to 24 inches in diameter which he feels makes things more manageable.
There is no burning on Smog Days declared by Environment Canada and Schwartz says they added that to the by-law as the municipality is trying to promote clean living.
Schwartz says barbeques are now not allowed on balconies containing two or more stories and dwelling units.
Schwartz says there is now a $10 per month fee for an open fire permit but that excludes campfires and farmers.
Schwartz says it has taken council about 2 years to bring the new changes in effect and encourages residents to become familiar with the new by-law by visiting the municipality’s website at www.westgrey.com
