An annual fundraiser for the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre Foundation goes this weekend.
The 9th Annual Charity Curling Classic will be held at the Grey Granite Curling Club in Owen Sound tomorrow.
Chairman Torben Hawksbridge says they can accommodate up to 20 teams and so far 13 have signed up.
Hawksbridge says the funspiel includes two draws with each team playing two six-end games.
He says the event really is for all levels of players and equipment like brooms and sliding tape will be provided – you just need to bring clean running shoes.
The team entry fee is 250 dollars in pledges – Hawksbridge says last year, one team raised 11-hundred.
Over the years, the event has raised 115-thousand dollars for the Foundation.
Executive Director Paul Weitendorf says this year, the money is going toward the purchase of an 800-thousand dollar nuclear medicine camera.
Weitendorf says they’re getting close to that goal – they raised 300-thousand through their Christmas campaign and received a 200-thousand dollar donation from the 2008 International Plowing Match Committee.
Weitendorf says the camera is a very important piece of technology for people in Grey Bruce and is used to diagnose many cancers and heart problems.
