The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has reviewed the facts around the death of 54 year old Lloyd Keleher of West Grey — and has found no wrongdoing with the Police force.
SIU director Ian Scott says investigators have concluded there are no reasonable grounds to believe an officer with the West Grey Police Service committed a criminal offence in this case.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators probed the circumstances of the incident.
The SIU investigation found that West Grey police were called on the afternoon of October 7th, after Keleher had left his residence.
The officer found him near a van along the town’s river bank, and says Keleher reach into his van to get a rifle.
At that point, the officer called for help.
Once the other officers arrived, they searched the river bank and found the mans’ body.
He had sustained a single fatal shotgun injury to the head.
Ian Scott says, “There is no suggestion of any police wrongdoing in relation to Mr. Keleher’s death.
The only reasonable conclusion from this investigation is that Mr. Keleher sustained a self-inflicted fatal injury.
