The Saugeen Conservation Authority and the Bruce County Museum have partnered on a new exhibit that will be unveiled at the Christmas in the Country event in late November.
The larger than life insect exhibit features some big bugs — including a lady bug the size of a Volkswagen, a 12 foot prey mantis as well as giant sized ants, and a massive snail.
Saugeen Conservation Authority Spokesperson Shannon Wood says they wanted to come up with an nature exhibit that would be both educational and fun.
She says insects have been around since the beginning of time and it’s important people better understand them as well as recognize the benefits they provide.
Wood says the insects and their environment have been made larger than life to provide the public with a chance to see the world through a bugs eye view.
There will be giant blades of grass that you can stroll through and a massive ant hill that you can enter.
Wood says the exhibit is about engaging people through a hands on experience.
After the bugs make their debut at the Christmas in the Country event this November, they will find a new temporary home at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
The Creepy Crawlies exhibit will be on display from May 17th until September 3rd.
The entire exhibit has been developed by staff from both the Saugeen Conservation Authority and the Bruce County Museum as well as many volunteers.
A large amount of recycled materials were used in the creation of the exhibit.
