The Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound is bringing back the Fine Art Auction.
It’s been almost ten years since the gallery put on the fund raising event, and Marketing Director Leanne Wright says they’ve had a lot of public demand to bring it back.
Wright calls the calibre of work featured in the auction spectacular.
And she’s most excited about a piece done by a local group of quilters.
Earlier this year, the Art Gallery approached the cARTel Art Quilt Group and asked them to recreate Tom Thomson’s painting entitled “Autumn.”
Quilter Sue Cole says it was an exciting challenge to take on, as they had to transfer the print to fabric using fibre art.
She says it took them about six months to complete.
There are many other pieces in the auction from well-known artists.
Wright says Edward Burtynsky is probably Canada’s most famous photographer, and they will also have work from First Nation’s artist John Hartman, as well as his wife and daughter.

If you can’t attend the live auction, Wright says you can put your bids in online as well.
The live Fine Art Auction takes place today at 7 PM.
