A gala event being put on for an 11 year old Durham girl has sold out.
Jennifer Sanderson says 300 people will attend a Princess Gala for Kara King, who is battling Ewing’s Sarcoma.
The rare cancer occurs in children just before they reach adolescence, and causes a malignant tumour.
Sanderson says Kara has finished chemotherapy and the doctors were able to remove the tumour from her leg.
However, now Kara is wheelchair bound, and she needs skin grafts, which aren’t going as well as hoped.
Sanderson says Kara’s parents have put their professional lives on hold, and so they wanted to do something to help the King family financially.
But she says they also wanted to treat Kara like a princess for a day.
So today they will take Kara to be pampered before heading to the Durham Community Centre.
The gala event gets underway at 5 PM, with a sit-down dinner, and continues with a fashion show and silent auction.
There will also be entertainment and a DJ for a night of fun for all ages.
Sanderson says they were very fortunate to sell out the event, but donations are still appreciated for the King family.
