It’s the first of its kind in Bruce County – a Homework Club.
It’s run by the Bruce County Children’s Aid Society and takes place in Kincardine at St. Anthony’s School on Tuesdays now through the end of April 28th 3:30 – 5 PM.
Volunteer Co-ordinator Rhonda Lantz said the purpose of the pilot project – is to help kids who want and need homework or subject help – but may not have resources at home.
Lantz says for now, the group will remain small – with six students.
Others have already been booked in by recommendation of the CAS or the school itself.
She says they offered St. Anthony’s the chance to host the club – because of access to resources like books – computers etc. and the school’s desire to help the community in some way.
The program will be run by volunteers from the CAS, a couple of high school students from KDSS and a retired teacher.
Lantz says they will be helping with homework – or helping in subjects the student is having trouble in.
Lantz is hoping for a successful run – so the project can be offered in the fall, for more students.
