Westario Power reports all of their customers in Kincardine now have smart meters.
The President and CEO of Westario, Lisa Milne, says the meters are being tested at homes and will be ready to be put into use next Spring.
Milne says the same timeline holds true for smart meter customers in Port Elgin and Southampton as well.
She says when the time-of-use program is underway, the meters will send an electronic signal to Westario offices on an hourly basis on the customer’s electrical consumption.
Depending on when that consumption is, will dictate whether or not the consumers will be charged peak, off-peak or weekend rates.
Milne says smart meters will allow users to monitor their own consumption with the aim of lowering energy costs by using power during non-peak periods.
