Miller applauds decision to keep Chesley school open
Ottawa, Ontario Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound congratulates the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) trustees on their decision to keep the Chesley District High chool (CDHS) open and convert it into a JK to grade 12 facility.
This decision is welcome news to Chesley area students and their parents. Keeping CDHS open reflects the concerns and wishes that were shared by the local community, says Miller. I am also very happy for Hanover who will get a new school as well. Both communities are inners with this decision.
Miller also supports MPP Bill Walker in his efforts to have a full review of the current education funding formula in order to better suit the educational needs of rural communities..

Vows to Put Heat on Government to Fix Education Funding Formula
OWEN SOUND The newly-elected MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, Bill Walker, says he is pleased with the decision of the ARC members who voted yesterday in favour of keeping the Chesley District High School open and converting it to a JK to Grade 12 facility.
I see it as a big victory for the Chesley students, their parents and our community. We can say without a doubt that our voice and concerns were heard and listened to, says Walker.
The MPP along with his federal counterpart, MP Larry Miller last week issued a statement, calling on the Bluewater District School Board to vote in favour of keeping CDHS open.
Walker also reiterated he will put heat on the governing Liberals to fix the education funding formula, as promised in last months provincial election.
The current school funding formula continues to put our childrens education at risk. Queens Park needs to wake up to the fact that their one-size-fits-all does not work for rural communities such as Bruce-grey-Owen Sound, and so Im committed to raising this issue in the legislature at my first available opportunity.
His party, which is also the Official Opposition party, will do the same, says Walker.
We will be holding the governments feet to the fire over their education election promises, one of which will be a full review of the funding formula so that so our small, rural schools can provide the same quality of education as their urban counterparts, says Walker.
