The recent cancellation of this year’s Doors Open promotion in Kincardine still has some people smarting and it’s back before council as well.
Kincardine councillor Jacqueline Faubert brought the subject up to create an open discussion as to where they go from here.
It’s been reported that the Doors Open campaign did not run last weekend because of a lack of volunteers willing to do the job.
Many Kincardine residents challenge that reason and say lack of organization and planning was at fault.
Faubert says what’s done is done and it’s time to move forward to see if they can salvage the event for next year.
They have to move fast in order to get into the provincial publications on tourism.
That copy has to be in by the end of the year.
Councillor Maureen Couture, who is also a participant in Doors Open, says it was a disappointment to see the tourist attraction collapse this year.
She has called for a public open house or information meeting to be held soon to see if indeed, there is any interest to continue on.
She says if so, then a volunteer committee needs to be set up.
No meeting date has been set.
Doors Open has been an annual event in Kincardine for six years, attracting visitors from all across Canada and beyond, bringing thousands of tourist dollars into the community.
