It’s good news for South Huron over the conditions of the watermain pipes in Stephen Ward.
Engineering Consultant Colin Wiebe says most of the pipes are around 25 years old and still have a long way to go before they need to be replaced.
He says most watermains have a lifespan of 70 years before the pipes need to be replaced.
Wiebe says the material of most of the pipes is PVC, which is pretty standard for newer sections of the watermain.
He says there are three sections that are high priority to be changed, mostly due to fire protection standards.
Wiebe says the pipes at B Line and Gore road need to be a bigger size and pipes through Shipka have to be upgraded because they’re undersized as well.
The third project is in the industrial section of Huron Park.
Wiebe says the pipes there are cast iron and need to be replaced with PVC due to the age and the rusting of the pipes.
