It may be hard to imagine — but human trafficking could be happening in your own community.
You can find out more tonight at a public information and awareness meeting Tuesday at 7 PM at the Hanover Knights of Columbus Centre.
The Founder of Canada Fights Human Trafficking Naomi Baker will be the guest speaker.
Organizer Anne Rehkoph says there are a few local families who strongly suspect their teens have been the victim of human trafficking.
She says it is a growing problem in Canada and no longer confined to urban cities.
Rehkopf hope tonight’s meeting will raise a greater awareness on the issue, in an effort to educate the public and prevent the problem.
Experts says human traffickers like to prey on at-risk youth and runaways as well as people who are socially or economically disadvantaged.
Rehkopf encourages educators, health and social workers, community leaders, coaches as well as parents to attend tonight’s meeting.
