Good news for those waiting for an MRI.
The South West Local Health Integration Network has approved close to 250 thousand dollars for Grey Bruce Health Services to increase their MRI hours.
The MRI machine in Owen Sound is currently operational 24 hours a day for several days a week.
With the funding, GBHS President and CEO Maureen Solecki says they can operate a full seven days a week, if need be.
Solecki says the one year funding increase is meant to take pressure off wait times for patients in Stratford and London who are waiting for a new MRI machine.
Solecki says it doesn’t mean someone from that area would receive care before a local resident because their MRI slots are always based on patients clinical needs.
Last year, Grey Bruce Health Services performed 10,892 MRI scans.
Solecki remembers a time when they could only count about 200 people in Grey and Bruce who had a scan.
