A boil water advisory has been issued by the municipality of Arran Elderslie.
Officials say testing showed a poor result this week and they are concerned about water quality.
Resampling is underway but for now residents in Paisley and Chesley are advised to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it.
Some 15 hundred homeowners are affected.
