The President and CEO of Bruce Power Duncan Hawthorne isn’t particularly interested in the Ontario Energy Minister says when it comes to where the new nuclear build might be.
Yesterday minister Gerry Phillips says Darlington in the Durham region might be a better spot for a new build because Tiverton is lacking in transmission capabilities.
On Soundingboard this morning, Hawthorne says he doesn’t care what the energy minister says.
He says he’s going to continue to drive his business plan forward and see what that delivers in the future.
Hawthorne says they’ve always known their “achilles heel” was transmission capability.
He says even with the proposed Bruce to Milton transmission line in operation is sufficient to support the eight-unit site plus the wind development.
If they get the new build then indeed the transmission issue will have to be addressed.
Hawthorne says if they don’t get the new build, the future is still very positive.
At the very least, Hawhtorne says it’s going to be an eight-unit site for the next 30-years with good paying jobs for a lot of people.
He says people can look foward to Bruce Power being a integral part of Ontario’s infrastructure for a long time to come.
