Facilities and Recreation Director Mike Fair says they’re hoping for a 25 thousand dollar grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage to go towards a celebration.
Fair says they would like to have the celebration on the weekend of August 15th, when the annual corn roast and car show takes place in Point Clark.
He says it’s a family-oriented event that usually draws three or four hundred people on the Saturday.
Fair says work is also needed on the lighthouse, pieces of stone are falling off and water is getting into the walls.
He says Parks Canada engineers have examined the structure and hopes they will be doing remedial work this year and in future years.
The Point Clark Lighthouse is a National Historic Site, operated as a seasonal musuem by the Township of Huron-Kinloss.
The lighthouse is one of six “Imperial Tower” Lighthouses on the Great Lakes. Others include Chantry Island and Cove Island.
