Grey County is concerned about quarry application delays.
The county is wondering why quarry applications are being held up by the Ministry of the Environment and the Niagara Escarpment Commission.
Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig says the MOE and NEC are not responding in a timely fashion, sometimes taking over a year to respond to submitted reports.
He says this is unacceptable, adding these applications need to be dealt with.
County representatives would like to meet with Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch, Premier Dalton McGuinty, Natural Resources Minister Donna Cansfield and Environment Minister John Gerretsen on the issue.
Greig says the delays have the potential to create a shortage of quality aggregate, which will reduce competition.
The county is also concerned with the need for consultations with local First Nations.
Greig says its an emerging issue, adding they need to know what the interpretation is of ‘consultation.’
