The new Harrison Park foot bridge is now open to the public.
The city of Owen Sound has completed the construction of the north island bridge which also included upgrades to the freedom trails to the bridge.
Councillor Peter Lemon says the bridge was an essential project for the city.
He sys the new bridge replaces the old Chinese bridge which was inaccessible and deteriorating.
Lemon says the bridge is very attractive and fits well into the area.
Lemon says the bridge construction was held up by Transport Canada, who deemed the shallow stream as “navigable water.”
He says the city met all of their requirements, adding the paddle boats and canoes will still be able to float underneath the bridge.
The bridge cost about 156 thousand dollars and was completed on time and within budget.
Lemon says the city also used a 40 thousand dollar Trillium grant for the bridge.
Lemon adds the bridge was just one item on a long list of required upgrades at Harrison Park.
He says the city is currently working to improving the electrical system, adding he would like to implement a tree planting project at the park.
