Students will be joining parents in a protest tomorrow morning in Saugeen Shores.
It surrounds the issue of keeping rotary classes within their schools in the Bluewater District School Board.
Concerned parent Melinda Myette says they are asking those in favour of saving rotary to join them at 8:30 at Waterloo Park with signs.
Myette says they will then walk to Saugeen Central Public School, circle Catherine Street and wrap things up around 10.
She says it’s a peaceful protest, adding it’s not just parents like her concerned about losing rotary, but students too.
She says students are worried about losing knowledge, and losing something they will be doing in high school anyway in a couple of years time.
Myette says there is no document stating non-rotary helps students learn better.
She says however, there is evidence supporting the fact it enhances learning from grade 6 on.
Myette says teachers are not commenting on the issue and cannot.
She says the teachers integrity is not in question, as they do a great job for the students.
She says they simply want teachers who specialize in subjects to continue teaching those subjects, to better enhance the quality of learning by the students.
Through a non rotary system, most subjects in grades 7 and 8 are taught by one home room teacher.
Parents plan to involve Education Minister Kathleen Wynne, should the board not start taking their concerns seriously.
A meeting was held April first with board officials, where it outlined plans to move from the rotary system to non-rotary.
