A LED-lighting experiment in Southampton has failed.
Saugeen Shores Public Works Director Stuart Doyle says they installed LED lighting on Grey Street South between Morpeth and High Streets in Southampton.
Induction lighting was installed between Peel and Morpeth Streets.
Neither impressed area residents.
Doyle says a survey was sent out and although all agreed more eco-friendly options should be pursued, the majority were not satisfied with the quality, quantity and strength of either lighting technology.
Doyle did point out though that newer and better LED streetlights are being offered for trial in Port Elgin, along Wellington Street, north of Devonshire.
The lights have not cost the municipality anything.
Another survey will be distributed to area residents for their comments.
In the meantime, it’s back to the traditional fixtures in Southampton.
