The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce is celebrating 25 years of service to the community.
Executive Director Deborah Barker says they wanted to mark the occasion with a special event this Saturday.
They have partnered with Grey Roots Museum and Archives just outside of Owen Sound to host a Weekend for Memories.
Barker says it’s a full day of events built around the importance of memories, and to show families ways they can record and preserve important life events.
Barker says Alzheimer’s and other dementia’s start as short-term memory loss, but eventually the long-term memories go as well.
She says it’s important to remember and have records.
Activities will begin at 10 AM, and include scrapbooking, time capsules and journals, as well as creating video memoirs.
There is even a virtual dementia tour, along with other resources and exhibits about the services and programs offered by the Alzheimer’s Society.
Everybody is welcome to attend, and Barker says it will be especially helpful for individuals and families currently coping with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
The events are scheduled from 10 AM until 4 PM.
