A three-year agreement has been approved by the Bruce County Council Emergency Services Committee.
The County will pay the Red Cross 10 thousand dollars a year during the term of the contract.
Bruce County Director of EMS Doug Smith says they have been in negotiations with the Red Cross over the past three years.
He says they have been going back and forth to their respective solicitors with the contract until they were able to come to an agreement.
Smith says if there is a situation where an evacuation centre is needed, Red Cross would set up the centre, supply the personnel, and do all the logistical work for the County.
Smith says their Social Services department would normally be responsible for setting up evacuation centres.
He says Red Cross has been doing this kind of work for the past 100 years and have the staff and volunteers at the ready.
He says this agreement would take the burden off the Social Services department as they dont have the resources that the Red Cross has.
