A Chatsworth man is taking home a big prize for a lucky guess.
Daryl Fremlin won the first ever “Guess the Big One” contest, run by Owen Sound Tourism.
The contest invited people to guess what the winning weight would be at this summer’s Salmon Spectacular.
Fremlin guessed 21.17 pounds, a number he says he got by adding a couple pounds to last year’s winning weight.
The top fish at this year’s derby was 21.16 pounds.
There was a six-way tie for second place, and Toronto resident Steven Combardi was chosen by a draw.
Tourism Marketing Coordinator Paulette Peirol says they’re very pleased with the success of the contest.
She says they received about 900 entries, and over 75 per cent of them were from people outside of our region.
Peirol says the goal was to try to reach out and draw more tourism to the Salmon Derby.
She says it’s definitely an event they hope to do annually, adding they received help from many local businesses to create a couple of great prize packages.
Combined, the two prize packages are worth two thousand dollars.
