The 18th annual Great Canadian Shoreline cleanup is underway, with events planned in a number of area communities.
Manager of the Shoreline Cleanup Jill Dwyer says it all started in Vancouver in 1994 with a group of people wanting to clean their shore up.
Over the years it has expanded and now includes all 10 Canadian provinces.
The event is held in late September and local organizers pick a location that needs cleaning, and a date to get volunteers out.
In our area, there are several shoreline cleanups going on including
Saturday September 24th there is a shoreline cleanup in Kincardine.
Sunday September 25th there is cleanup of the Grand River in Mount Forest.
Monday September 26th a cleanup will be held at Southampton Beach
And on Thursday September 29th — volunteers will cleanup the Sydenham River in Owen Sound from the mouth of the river to Harrison Park.
