Councillor Jane Barber has resigned.
Barber has taken on a new job looking after tourism and marketing for a community in Alberta.
Barber says moving to a different part of Canada will be an adjustment after spending so much of her life in Bruce County.
She says there is no single accomplishment she alone will take credit for since being elected to council in 2006.
Barber says Saugeen Shores Council is a team and works together on everything.
She says saying goodbye to the community is tough and not easy to do.
Barber says she’s enjoyed working with Saugeen Shores staff and council, a group of people she calls “amazing.”
Mayor Mike Smith says each councillor brings something different to the council table and Barber’s contribution has been creativity.
Smith says he was glad to see Barber on council and she will be missed.
The mayor says they’ll be looking into how to fill the vacancy on council soon.
He says options include appointing a new councillor, holding a by-election, or leaving the seat vacant until the next election is held in 2010.
Barber is a Graphic Designer by profession and was also part-owner of The Wired Mouse in Port Elgin.
In 2007, she was names Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation.
