He has been elected as the chair of the Commons Agriculture and Agri Food Committee by the all party members of the committee.
On Soundingboard this morning, Miller says this shows that despite what many people see or hear in the media, there is a strong non partisan atmosphere on Parliament Hill especially at the committee level where most of the work gets done.
He says many of the members of the committee have an agricultural back ground, but all of them share the same common goal of trying to better agriculture in Canada.
Miller says some the important issues he wants to see the committee deal with is a review of the competition bureau especially the way they look at the meat packing industry and lack of competition in that sector.
He says in fact there is no competition and that is bad for cattle and pork producers not only in Grey Bruce but right across the country.
Miller also wants to the committee to look at the future of farming and what can be done to encourage more young people to take up farming as a profession.
He says another thing they have to continue to work on is finding new markets for Canadian Agricultural products.
