Planning is in the early stages for a new soup kitchen in Owen Sound.
Reverend Keith Sweeting at First Baptist Church says they have met a few times with other area church leaders, but have not determined where the kitchen will be set up.
Sweeting tells Bayshore Broadcasting News this would be more substantial that what the Victorious Living centre is doing for the homeless in Owen Sound right now.
He says Pastor Randy Kennedy is in support of the move to set up the kitchen.
Pastor Kennedy tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, if the proposed new kitchen actually opens, he will close his kitchen — saying there is no need to duplicate the service.
Reverend Sweeting says they are now setting up a board and that board will meet later this month to determine where to go with the project.
It’s unclear how much the new soup kitchen will cost and so far, they haven’t decided which meal will be served, breakfast, lunch or dinner but it will be one meal a day in a neutral location.
Reverend Sweeting says they plan to come up with a better name, but for now they are calling it a “Soup Kitchen.”
