The weekend’s mild weather put a bit of a damper on the 7th Annual Rotary Winterama.
However, United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says it was still a successful event, with activities held in both Shallow Lake and Port Elgin on Saturday.
Over 22-thousand dollars was raised, down from last year’s 38-thousand, but comparable to 2007.
Dobbyn says the warm weather meant some snowmobile events had to be cancelled, so there was a decline in the number of participants there.
However, the Tobermory Snowmobile Club raised just under 15-hundred dollars.
Dobbyn says the most popular activity was snowshoeing, with more people snowshoeing rather than skiing.
The money raised at Winterama gets split between the Rotary and United Way of Bruce Grey who both put it back into the community.
