Jay Kirkland, former owner of Kirklands Valu Martis planning on building a Seniors apartment complex in the town.
Kirkland says it was time to get out of the grocer business and there is a demand for seniors apartments in Wiarton.
He is looking at building a 60 unit apartment complex with construction to begin in the spring.
So far, he hasn’t got all the approvals in place, but Kirkland hopes to get the go ahead within a few weeks.
No dollar figure was put on the development.
He says they will be rental apartments but he will maintain the property including snowplowing in the winter.
