The process is working.
So says Bruce Power spokesperson John Peevers in reaction to the Joint Review Panel requesting more information and clarification from Bruce Power concerning its Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and the application for a licence to prepare a site.
Peevers says you have to understand that everyone is in uncharted waters here and the panel requesting more information is not necessarily surprising.
He says the company provided a 4,000 page report on the EIS and in the panel’s study, they’ve come up with some questions.
Peevers says over 50 questions have been submitted to Bruce Power covering subjects such as the hydrological and geological impact of a new build, along with the socio-economic impact to the area.
He says the company will provide the answers in a timely fashion but will not rush the information in order to make sure everything is covered.
To that end the Panel Review has announced that the time for public comment is being extended while this information is compiled.
The public comment phase was to end this May but that has been extended indefinitely at this point.
A new cut off date will be announced down the road.
Peevers says everyone can take comfort that the process is so detailed and it proves the concept is working.
