Two full days have been set aside for the budget discussions and Mayor Ruth Lovell-Stanners says there will also be a public meeting later this month for any last minute feedback, but the budget is finalized.
Today and tomorrow are all day sessions at City Hall and it is open to the public.
Mayor Lovell-Stanners tells Bayshore Broadcasting news with no changes at all, property taxes would increase 4.19% for this year.
She didn’t set a goal, but says with inflation low and a struggling economy they will work to reduce the increase as much as possible.
The overall budget for Owen Sound including operating and capital costs, looks like 39.8 million dollars right now.
Of that total, the Mayor says they would need to raise 19.6 million dollars from property tax payers.
To reduce the budget by 1% would require they find 196 thousand dollars worth of savings.
