Council has approved an engineering contract for over 184 thousand dollars for the installation of new grit removal equipment and a septage receiving station at the Port Elgin Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Mayor Mike Smith says he likes to see projects go ahead that can potentially benefit the entire municipality.
He says while not every property in Saugeen Shores is connected to the sewer system the fact that the plant will be able to accept septage will also benefit other residents.
Smith says the improvements to the plant should also permanently fix the occasional odour problems at the facility that he says have prompted some complaints over the past year.
Council is also in support of spending 85 hundred dollars on engineering work to use more of the available space at the Southampton Landfill site.
Smith says the work is part of the original plan for the site and is done to establish which parts of the property will be used.
