A trial is set to begin today for four men who are charged in connection with a beating and stabbing in Owen Sound.
19 year old suspects Cody Doherty, Shawn Dyer and Blaine McEachern all of Owen Sound, are charged along with 23 year old William Werner of no fixed address.
The young men were arrested after a 42 year old Toronto man was beaten, stabbed and robbed on an Owen Sound street in July of last year.
Police say the victim was falsely accused of rape hours before he was approached by a woman who had been drinking.
She hit him and used racial slurs against him, while the victim defended himself and called police.
Several men then joined in, attacking the Toronto man who was stabbed at least once in the chest during the attack. He managed to get a cab and was taken to hospital.
The 17 year old girl who accused the man of rape, pleaded guilty earlier to assault and was given two years probation.
The 4 men in the case are charged with assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and robbery.
2 weeks have been set aside in Owen Sound Superior court for the case to be heard beginning today.
The trial is scheduled to get underway at 2pm
