Don’t be alarmed if you notice fire crews on the scene of an old farm house just east of Elmwood today.
It’s all part of a special two-day Thermal Imaging Training Program being led by firefighters from the United States.
The smokehouse is being used as a teaching device to instruct firefighters on the proper way to interpret thermal images from their thermal imaging cameras.
Elmwood Fire Department Training Instructor John Brunner calls this training a must for local firefighters.
He says while many area departments are now equipped with thermal imaging cameras, interpreting the technology during a fire has proved quite challenging at times.
Firefighters from across Midwestern and Southwestern Ontario are participating in the Thermal Imaging Training Program.
Today’s live burn scenario wraps up the two day event.
Yesterday was spent in the classroom with today’s lesson focusing on practical training.
Brunner is confident the weekend event will better equip firefighters to properly interpret thermal images, which in turn will benefit everyone.
