Hundreds of Scouts are at the park for their 46th annual winter camp out and Scout Leader Brian Green says this is one of the highlights of the year.
Scouts from all over Ontario and even Ohio attend this annual event, and Green says it is packed full of all sorts of activities designed to improve the scouts winter survival skills.
He says there is a rescue competition where teams of 6 scouts must take a rescue sled into the bush, then transport an injured person through an obstacle course in the quickest possible time.
Green says there are also camp fire building competitions along with compass bearing drills and tree identification.
He says the most important thing this weekend is making sure the Scouts are properly equipped for camping in the outdoors and have all the proper equipment and clothing to remain warm.
Green says the Scout leaders however keep a close eye on the young people and anyone who is feeling the cold is taken to a near by warming hut.
He says this weekend looks ideal as far as the weather is concerned, its not too warm so there wont be any wet slushy conditions and its not too cold either.
Green says everyone is welcome to visit the Scouts at Harrison Park to check out what they are doing.
