Kincardine Council is backing the 2009 Saugeen Conservation budget.
The proposed budget calls for an eight percent increase in the general levy with Kincardines share at around nine thousand dollars.
But while Kincardine gave the budget a stamp of approval at last nights meeting, other municipalities like Brockton have made it known that they are against it.
Kincardine Councillor Ron Hewitt says the SCA is at a point where they cant cut anymore.
Hewitt — a member of the SCA Board of Directors — says they may have to layoff staff and eliminate departments adding the Board has no other choice.
Hewitt says they cant increase user fees to their areas because he has heard from people that the SCA is charging too much for use of the facilities.
He says it is pretty hard for the people who use the parks and campgrounds to pay the fees.
Hewitt says the SCA is going through a strategic planning session.
He says over the last number of years there has been an increase in the budget as the Ontario government continues to hold the line on funding.
He says the SCA is spending 17 thousand dollars on consultants to look at the programs at Saugeen Conservation and determine what can be saved or eliminated.
The SCA Board will be voting on the budget at their February 12th meeting.
