It is not often you see a brand new Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the lobby of a senior’s residence.
But if you walk into Gateway Haven in Wiarton, you will see one that is being raffled off.
The Friends of Gateway are selling tickets to raise money for the long-term care facility.
Thursday’sĀ Bruce County Agriculture, Tourism, and Planning committee meeting at Gateway Haven.
Gateway Haven Administrator Charles Young says the money that they raise goes towards things like furniture and equipment in making the facility look nice.
Young says the Friends were given official charity status in 1996 and has since raised over 250 thousand dollars.
He says it is a remarkable feat adding all of the effort was done thanks to volunteers who had to purchase the Harley in order to give it away.
Young says Bruce County supports long-term care homes by subsidizing their budgets.
But he says the Friends provide that extra touch where they can purchase some luxury items.
People can purchase raffle tickets at Gateway Haven, from members of the Friends of Gateway committee, and a select number of businesses in Wiarton.
The draw will be made this September and Young says there will also be cash prizesĀ available to be won.
