Ray Gilbert — Executive Director of the Bruce Grey Trail Network — went to Bruce County’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Planning committee meeting in Wiarton yesterday.
He asked that the County approve a section from Bruce Road 8 east of Sauble Beach to Highway 6 at the South end of Wiarton for ATV use for the next five years.
Gilbert says it is an unintrusive trail with a mixture of municipal roads, private and County land, and Ministry of Natural Resources land.
Gilbert says their focus is towards those who don’t belong to ATV clubs or are on a user pay system.
He says part of their job is to educate the public and get them to realize that in order for them to ride their trails they must be on a user pay system.
Gilbert says many municipalities in Bruce County already have by-laws in place that permit the use of ATVs on municipal roads.
He says this proposal will grant permission to those who use the trail along MNR land and County forests.
He says many landowners have already signed on to the agreement.
Bruce County’s Director of Planning Chris LaForest says they will consider approvingĀ use of the trail once they go through a checklist for any safety risks.
