Some members of Kincardine Council want to close the landfill in the town of Kincardine in about 18 months.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says many feel it would be too expensive to continue operations there, as it is rather full, and that’s when the license is up anyway.
He says once it closes, main operations would be shifted to the landfill within the former township of Kincardine.
There are some members of council however, who feel there should be a transfer station in town instead.
Kraemer says though the municipal landfill has plenty of room and a lengthy license already.
He hopes a recycling facitily would be set up at the public works site, adjacent to that site at the same time as the swtichover.
Kraemer says things like paper, plastics, cardboard etc. would be able to be dropped off there.
The landfill in the township of Bruce would remain unaffected by the deal.
Kraemer believes it has a 15-20 year license left on it.
At this point council is hiring a consultant firm to review their plans.
