The Ministry of Natural Resources is appealing a ruling that stayed charges against six Midwestern Ontario men.
The six men — from Grey, Bruce and Huron Counties — made a motion in Walkerton court last week that their charter rights for a speedy trial were violated.
And Justice Julia Morneau agreed and stayed the charges.
But MNR Investigations Officer Rick Maw tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are appealing the ruling.
In fact, the notice of appeal has already been filed with Superior Court.
The charges were laid in 2005 as the men were accused of capturing the coyotes and selling them or using them to train hunting dogs.
Maw argues one of the main reasons for the delay was because the accused were ordered to find new lawyers.
11 men were originally charged with more than 200 offences.
Two men have already been convicted, two others still have their cases before Provincial Offences court and charges against another man were withdrawn.
