Another successful Cops for Cancer Event in Owen Sound.
About 50 residents got their heads shaved yesterday at the Bayshore Broadcasting Parking Lot.
Canadian Cancer Society Fundraising Co-ordinator Jennifer Wright says she is thanful the rain stopped just in time for the event.
Wright says the number of people participating is the usual number but there is a wide range of ages
Wright says everyone that participates has a story and they all know the money raised goes to a great cause.
Wright says they raised just over $14,500 with their goal being $15,000.
Wright says they still have to check the on-line donations and are very confident they will reach this year’s goal.
Stacey Furnell participated for the first time in the event by getting her head shaved and raised about $2,600.
Furnell says she participated because she has one really close friend and other friends dealing with cancer.
10 year old Troy Cameron had his shaved for the first time but says it won’t be his last.
Cameron says he will participate in the event every year until he is 19 because of the many kids who die each year from cancer and hopes he can help find a cure.
Cameron says he had 3 family members die of cancer.
Cameron was able to raise just under $760 for the event.
